Why isn't my soap business showing up on Google

Why Your Handmade Soap Business Isn’t Showing Up on Google

If you’ve ever searched your own business name on Google and scrolled past pages of random results before giving up, you’re not alone. This is one of the most common problems I see when I do SEO audits for handmade soap and skincare brands, and it’s rarely because your website is “bad.” It’s because Google hasn’t been given the right signals to understand who you are and what you sell.

Short answer: Your business likely isn’t showing up on Google because your site hasn’t been properly indexed, your Google Business Profile is incomplete or missing, or your on-page content doesn’t clearly tell Google what you sell and to whom. Fixing all three usually resolves it within a few weeks.

Let’s go through each one.

1. Google Hasn’t Indexed Your Website Yet

A published website and an indexed website are two different things. Just because you can see your site in a browser doesn’t mean Google has crawled it and added it to search results. New sites, or sites that recently changed themes or domains, often sit in this in-between state for weeks.

How to check: Type site:yourdomain.com into Google. If nothing comes up, Google hasn’t indexed you.

How to fix it: Submit your sitemap through Google Search Console and request indexing for your key pages manually. This usually speeds things up from weeks to days.

2. Your Google Business Profile Is Missing or Incomplete

If you sell locally, ship from a specific city, or want to show up in “near me” searches, your Google Business Profile matters as much as your website. A profile with no category, no photos, and no hours tells Google (and customers) very little.

How to fix it: Claim and verify your profile, choose the most accurate category for what you actually do, and fill in every available field — even the ones that feel optional.

3. Your Website Content Doesn’t Clearly Say What You Sell

This one surprises people. Google can’t “see” your soap the way a customer can — it reads your text. If your homepage just says things like “handmade with love” without ever mentioning what you actually make (natural soap, skincare, specific ingredients, your location), Google has very little to work with.

How to fix it: Make sure your homepage and product pages plainly state what you sell, who it’s for, and where you’re based, in normal sentences — not keyword lists.

The Honest Timeline

Fixing these three things doesn’t produce results overnight. Realistically, expect one to four weeks for local visibility to improve once your Google Business Profile is complete, and a similar window for indexing once your sitemap is submitted. Consistency — regular content, accurate information, and patience — is what actually moves the needle, not shortcuts.
